When building a house, there must be planning and some type of design created. What would happen if you just put this here and that there without any plan or design to where everything goes? "Honey, I think we need to move the house to the left 10 feet. The garage is to small." Or, "Why is the kitchen here? There is no water for the sink." Plans are a must and it goes the same for anything you build. This would apply to building a cattle ranch.

Cattle ranching is the same as running a hotel. So, when a hotel is built, there is deciding before hand where the tennis courts, swimming pool, golf course, etc. is going to be placed. Other than knowing where to place the ranch house, planning is done to build and install 4 things needed to help manage the cattle. Here is an outline of the 4 things to be built and installed.

o After outlining the property with fencing. An entrance area needs to be established. Building a "ramp" is needed to help load and unload cattle from the trailer. This makes it easy to catch the animal for inspection.

o Next to the entrance area of the pasture, a barn or feed shed is built. The barn or shed is a great place to manage the cattle. In the barn, equipment to work on the cattle ranch is stored. Feed, like hay and grains are stored here too.

o A silo is great to have on a cattle ranch. Silos are used to store grains and other feed that needs to be stored in a dry place. It preserves the grains from mold and going stale.

o In areas where it is needed to drive into without having a gate, a cattle guard is installed. This makes sure the cattle don't wonder off the property. If there is no cattle guard, then a gate is put up. Usually cattle guards are placed at the entrance to the property off the main road.
